Jo Torr

Jo Torr was born in Te Awamutu, New Zealand.  She is a practising artist best known for her sculpture that encapsulates themes of mutual cultural exchange between peoples.  The sculpture generally takes the form of costume with historical and Polynesian/Māori references.

After completing a Bachelor of Māori Art Maunga Kura Toi, Torr is exploring the materials and techniques of raranga and whatu through the form of kete to inform future artwork. Kete are an indigenous form of carry bag and can be both practical and decorative.

Torr’s work is exhibited and collected by public art galleries and museums throughout New Zealand.
