Scott McFarlane

Scott McFarlane is a gifted painter, known for his dark, powerful, spiritual landscapes. He is equally at home working in clay which provides a perfect canvas for his image-making of landscapes, portraits, abstract and text-based subjects.

Since graduating with honours from Otago School of Art in 1993, McFarlane has exhibited widely throughout New Zealand.  From 1997-98 he was Artist-in-Residence at the Rita Angus Cottage, Wellington. He has spent time living in Northland and Dunedin - the dramatic landscape of both islands influencing his work.

Another major inspiration in McFarlane’s work is his interest and involvement in niche, experimental electronic music providing an evolving narrative between his music, painting and ceramic work.

McFarlane’s quirky, thought-provoking ceramic tiles have been widely exhibited and feature in many private and public collections in New Zealand and overseas.
